TRIP 1 // GIANT TOMB ISLAND CIRCUMNAVIGATION
TRIP 2 // FRANKLIN ISLAND TOUR AND EXPLORE
Franklin Island is truly one of the gems of Georgian Bay; A World-Class paddling destination with limitless routes to explore. This day trip will take you to the outer and more exposed side of the Island where you will navigate through the channels of Franklin, the open waters of the Bay and explore some of the smaller islands that speckle the region surrounding it. The route pictured below is one of the possible routes, but exact route will depend on weather conditions. IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants need to be physically fit enough to paddle 22km.
As you stand on the beaches of Awenda Provincial Park and look out to Georgian Bay, you can't help but notice Giant Tomb Island. It is prominent. mysterious and inviting. You will instantly want to jump in your boat and paddle around it, eager to see what the island looks like with your own eyes and to challenge the waters of Georgina Bay. On this day trip you will be guided on the 20km circumnavigation of Giant Tomb Island and not only learn how to route plan and paddle effectively in the dynamic waters of Georgian Bay, but also learn a bit about the unique biodiversity and folklore that define this island. As you make your way around, you will pass Granite boulders, cobble beaches and a beautiful sandy beach where you will stop for a snack and for the brave, a refreshing (cold!)
